ARES Annual Simulated Emergency Test (SET) -- Saturday, 9/19/15

On Saturday, 9/19/15 at 1300, regardless of your location in San Diego County or Imperial County, please check into your neighborhood Emergency Coordinator's (EC) radio net.

ARES non-members (Hams at-large), too, are invited to check in at 1300 with the ECs responsible for their neighborhoods.

To assist you with your check-in, the ARES Comm Plan (which includes a list of ECs, neighborhoods, repeaters, and protocols) will be available on the ARES web site, www.SDGARES.net under Library > Operations Manuals.

After you check in with your EC, your call sign will be posted on www.SDGARES.net to acknowledge your check-in located at SET > Set List Check-Ins.

The SET will run from 1300 to 1700. After the 1300 roll call of all Hams (expected to last for one hour), the ECs, the SEC, and others will conduct a variety of radio checks with disaster response agencies across Southern California.

We will publish more information on the SET as plans finalize.

Thank you.

Here (below) is the timeline for the upcoming ARES SET that starts on Saturday, 9/19/15 at 1300.
This timeline covers the roles of individual Hams and of ECs. If you have questions, please ask publicly or contact k6rjf@gmail.com privately to discuss.

I encourage all Hams to contact their ECs in advance of the drill to volunteer to assist their ECs, if required.

Thank you.

--------------------------
Ham1. At 1300, all Hams (including non-ARES Hams) check in with your neighborhood Emergency Coordinator (EC) on the repeater listed in the ARES Comm Plan for your EC. If you do not have an EC, check in with any EC. If you do not know where to find your EC, monitor other repeaters and ask for guidance on finding your EC. The EC list is in the ARES Comm Plan on the web site www.sdgares.net (Library>Operations Manuals).

Ham2. At 1330, all Hams participate with their ECs in simplex drills.

Ham3. From 1300-1700, as your personal schedule allows, monitor your EC’s repeater for possible assignment to a communications task during the SET.

EC1. At 1300, all ECs activate their radio nets to receive check-ins from ARES and non-ARES Hams. (ECs may choose to designate net controls to run their nets.)

EC2. At 1330, if time allows, ECs lead simplex drills in their neighborhoods.

EC3. At 1400, all ECs make a voice report to the ASEC (N8KBC) of the number of check-ins. (ECs use K6XI repeater 449.440 MHz, PL 107.2 to make their reports.)

EC4. At 1430, all ECs make a text report (via Winlink, email, or web site log-in) to the ASEC of call signs of check-ins. (Prior to the drill, ECs who do not have Winlink capability may contact the Winlink Manager (KI6MBO) to request Winlink support.)

EC5. At 1500, all ECs conduct lateral radio checks with neighboring ECs. (Refer to the ARES Comm Plan to know the repeaters that neighboring ECs use.)

EC6. At 1500, all ECs attempt to contact one neighborhood non-ARES disaster response organization (such as CERT or town EOC) for a radio check. (This might require the EC to coordinate with the other organization before the drill.)

EC7. At 1600, all ECs participate in hot-wash net with SEC. (ECs use K6XI repeater 449.440 MHz, PL 107.2 for hot-wash with SEC.)

ASEC1. At 1300, ASEC (and designated helpers) monitor repeaters to help guide Hams to their ECs’ repeater.
